Abstract

Field trials for weed control with Roundup Ultra in glyphosate-tolerant sugar beet conducted on 13 trial sites in Germany. The aim of the trials was to examine the application of the Roundup Ready system. Within the scope of trials, various application quantities and times of Roundup Ultra were tested for efficacy against weeds, tolerance of the sugar beet towards the herbicide and sugar yield in comparison to conventional application systems. It was shown that the efficacy of Roundup Ultra with 2 or 3 applications of max. 3.0 to 6.0 l/ha in total was comparable to conventional weed control systems for total weed infestation and single weed species. The use of Roundup Ultra as well as the conventional herbicides showed no visual leaf damage. On average of two years the sugar yield of the Roundup Ultra treatments of 3 x 2.0 l/ha and 2 x 3.0 l/ha respectively were slightly but not significant higher than the yield of the conventional system.
