The department develops and coordinates advisory-related field trials in order to find solutions to current challenges and problems in the areas of plant protection and varieties. The field trials are planned and carried out by the coordination committee at the IfZ in cooperation with the regional working groups for sugar beet trials. On behalf of the Federal Office of Plant Varieties, the department is responsible for the technical organisation of sugar beet variety registration trials, including quality analysis.
